A 22-year-old resident of the Far South Side's Roseland neighborhood was fatally shot Sunday morning in south suburban Riverdale, authorities said.
Just before 4:30 a.m., someone fired from a white SUV into a nearby vehicle at the intersection of West 144th and South Halsted streets, Riverdale police said.
An occupant of the second vehicle, later identified as Preston Griffin, was shot in the back, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Griffin, a resident of the 10800 block of South Forest Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:31 a.m.
Riverdale police are investigating the shooting, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at (708) 841-2203.
