Cops: Man held woman captive for more than 2 months on Northwest Side

A man was charged today in connection with the kidnapping, battery and attempted murder of a woman he allegedly held for weeks at his Jefferson Park neighborhood home, police said.

Sir Wilfred Camaligan, 22, of the 5300 block of West Lawrence Avenue, was charged with domestic aggravated battery, kidnapping and attempted murder, said Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

Police said a 20-year-old woman, who had a past relationship with Camaligan, was held against her will from mid-July until she escaped on Friday.

Police said she was not allowed to leave Camaligan's home without permission. The victim was allowed to leave the residence to run an errand when she flagged down a woman, police said. A text message was then sent, either by the victim or that woman, to the victim's mother.

The victim's mother declined comment Saturday evening.

The victim had a number of bruises on her body and fractured bones, and suffered possible hearing loss. Camaligan allegedly forced her to cut herself, according to police. She was taken to Resurrection Medical Center, police said.
Camaligan, who was found hiding in the basement of his residence, was arrested Friday night, according to police.
He was scheduled to appear in bond court on Sunday.
