A 15-year-old boy was shot a block from a Bronzeville high school this afternoon, authorities said.
The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg following the shooting about 2:48 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Calumet Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. His condition was stabilized at the hospital, Zala said.
The boy was walking on the sidewalk when a man or boy came up and fired two shots at him, hitting him once, then fleeing, Zala said.
No one was in custody, Zala said.
The block where the boy was shot is a block east of Wendell Phillips Academy High School, 244 E. Pershing Road.
