Smoking Popes frontman Josh Caterer's conversion to Christianity wasn't the catalyst behind the band's dissolution in the late 90s, but he was vocal about the internal struggle between his devotion to Christ and his devotion to the group. The Popes put an end to its six-year hiatus with a triumphant gig at Metro in 2005 and have continued to perform.
