A Schiller Park man who was shot over the weekend became the third man to die following shootings that occurred during a three-hour stretch early Saturday, authorities said. His death marks the 446th homicide of the year in the city.
An autopsy Monday determined David Kitka, 29, of the 9800 block of Linn Avenue in Schiller Park, died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Kitka was shot early Saturday but was pronounced dead Sunday at 8:08 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the medical examiner's office.
Police were called to the 4900 block of West Diversey Avenue at 4:15 a.m. Saturday for a "man slumped over the wheel,"’ and found him inside a vehicle on the sidewalk with its engine still running and the gear in drive, according to a police report.
Officers placed the car in park, turned off the ignition and discovered Kitka breathing, but unconscious and bleeding from the head, the report said. He was initially taken in critical condition by ambulance to Illinois Masonic, the report said.
Others who died from shootings from 3 a.m. to 6 am. Saturday were Ismael Perez, who was shot in the 9700 block of South Exchange Avenue at 5:45 a.m. and Travis Henry, 19, who was shot about 4 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue.
Detectives are investigating but there was no information about arrests.
As of Tuesday, there have been 446 homicides for the year.
