A Carol Stream man pleaded guilty Friday to stabbing his wife to death, according to DuPage County prosecutors.
In a negotiated plea, Clifford Bolden, 38, entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill to the first-degree murder of Hope Taylor in a Friday appearance before Judge Daniel Guerin, who sentenced him to a 35 years.
Authorities say the couple got into an argument on Oct. 19, 2011, at their Gunderson Drive apartment, and that Bolden left the residence. He returned later and the argument rekindled. Bolden stabbed Taylor in the chest and head with what is believed to have been a kitchen knife.
Bolden than called 911 and was taken into custody; Taylor was transported to a hospital and died a month later from her injuries, prosecutors said.
“Perhaps if Mr. Bolden had walked away that morning and not returned until after he had calmed down, Hope Taylor would still be alive today and not a victim of domestic violence,” State’s Atty. Robert Berlin said.
