A cabdriver who struck and killed a man late Monday on Cicero Avenue near Midway Airport has been cited in the collision, authorities said.

Lester Brown, 75, has been cited for striking a pedestrian in a roadway and driving too fast for conditions, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Janusz Kamienski, 56, of the 400 block of Annawood Drive in Yukon, Oklahoma, died at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The cab was heading south in the 5200 block of South Cicero Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Monday when it hit a man in the road just south of Archer Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. The man was crossing east to west on Cicero Avenue, not in the crosswalk, police said.

A driver who said she was behind the cab as it sped down Cicero Avenue said the cab driver did nothing to check on the man he had just hit, instead yelling about how he did not want to go to jail. The pedestrian was in the roadway as the cab headed down Cicero, she said.

Court records show that Brown, of the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue, has had been cited for numerous traffic violations in the last decade, including a number of speeding tickets. City records do not show that he currently has a livery license, nor that he has had a livery license revoked or suspended since 2006.
