Broadview man charged in Maywood murder

Special to the Tribune

A judge ordered a Broadview man to be held without bond today for striking and killing a co-worker with a motor vehicle Saturday in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Maywood, according to police officials.

Gregory Coppage, 53, was charged with first degree murder on Monday for allegedly running down Chicago resident Tyrone Carter, 48, around the time police were dispatched for a fight in progress about 6:20 p.m. Saturday at a Popeye's restaurant, 1019 W. Roosevelt Rd.

When police arrived they found Carter unresponsive on the ground. Maywood police officials said the two men worked at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood, adding that the incident ended tragically as a result of a violent encounter between both men just minutes prior to the incident.

Police believe the dispute was over a woman.
