One thing to know about our book club: Our group formed about five years ago with people living in two condo communities in the West Loop. Although some of us have moved away, it is a testament to our group that we now meet all over town as we continue to discuss books together. We especially enjoy meetings in the restaurant owned by one of our members in the Little Italy neighborhood.
Author we'd most like to meet: Wally Lamb, John Irving. Author Brigid Pasulka recently joined us (pictured, center), and it was fascinating to learn about her background and the inspiration for her book “A Long Long Time Ago and Essentially True.”
Worst excuse anyone's given for not reading an assigned book: They are usually good excuses, such as work or family issues.
Average time we actually spend talking about a book before conversation swerves off into politics and family issues: About one hour but depends on the book.
What book is next: “Lark and Termite” by Jayne Anne Phillips.
Five books we loved: “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini “Loving Frank: A Novel” by Nancy Horan, “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel” by David Wroblewski, “The Hour I First Believed: A Novel” by Wally Lamb and “A Long Long Time Ago and Essentially True” by Brigid Pasulka.
