Train hitting pedestrian disrupts BNSF Metra service

A pedestrian was hit by a train tonight, causing BNSF Metra trains to be delayed for hours.

The pedestrian was hit by the train near Cass Avenue in Westmont, said Tom Miller, a Metra spokesman. He did not know the condition of the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was hit by a Metra equipment train, but the investigation affected all Metra trains between Aurora and Chicago, according to the Metra website.

Delays of more than an hour were expected, Metra said at 5:55 p.m. when announcing the incident.

As of 6:50 p.m., some service on the BNSF line had resumed with trains operating on one track, traveling slowly through the area, Miller said. As of 7:40 p.m., riders on some trains were still reporting their trains still had not been moved and their delays had stretched to two hours.
