"Bleepin' golden ... " day

Ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich signs an autograph after leaving the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in downtown Chicago. Blagojevich completed his fourth day on the witness stand at his retrial. He was finally asked by his lawyer to describe what he meant when he likened his power to pick a replacement for President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate as something that was "(expletive) golden … and I, I'm just not giving it up for (expletive) nothing." Blagojevich shed little new light on what he meant. "Well, that's the Senate seat -- that's the phrase, effing golden, that was heard around the world," Blagojevich testified. "I was saying this opportunity is effing golden and that's what I was saying. I don't want to give it up for nothing, so we were having these discussions" with advisers on how to use the appointment power as a bargaining chip.
