Autopsy determines 3-month-old's death a homicide

The Cook County medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy today and determined that a 3-month-old Calumet City boy's death Thursday was a homicide due to suffocation.

Ken Blackman Jr. of the 500 block of Luella Avenue in the suburb was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m. Thursday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

Details of death were not known, but the medical examiner's office listed the location of the death as a home in the 14900 block of Washington Avenue in Harvey. Calls to Harvey police were not returned.

A spokesman for the state Department of Children and Family Services said the agency is investigating the child's death. The agency has had no prior contact with Ken's family, and the other child in the family has been placed in DCFS custody, spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said.
