The Art Institute's Kaleidoscope Family Festival is the perfect way to prevent summer brain drain. Visitors of all ages can explore art-making and activity stations throughout the museum—led by staffers and guest artists from Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bronzeville Children's Museum and Poetry Foundation to name a few—and play Surrealist games inspired by the "Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary" exhibit.
10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 19 at the Art Institute's Ryan Education Center, 111 S. Michigan Ave. (312-443-3600, artic.edu). Free.
