JazzCity Season

Since 1997, the Jazz Institute of Chicago has partnered with the Chicago Park District to present a series of free events in park facilities in neighborhoods throughout the city. This fall, three events on the South Side will present mixed groups of saxophone-led ensembles in different locations. Baritone player Ted Hogarth brings his rollicking tribute to Gerry Mulligan, the Mulligan Mosaics Big Band, to Grand Crossing, 7655 S. Ingleside Ave., on Oct. 7. Upcoming saxophonists James Perkins, Juli Wood, Kevin Nabors, Rajiv Orozco and Pat Malinger will square off at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive, on Nov. 4. And in a nod to a great moment in the city's jazz history, the terrific tenor saxophonists Ari Brown and Ed Wilkerson will revisit the Clifford Jordan and John Gilmore pairing on the 1957 hard-bop album "Blowin' in From Chicago," at Hamilton Park, 513 W. 72nd St., on Dec. 9. JazzCity Season: 7 p.m. Oct. 7, Nov. 4, Dec. 9; free; 312-427-1676,
