'Radio City Christmas Spectacular'

The "Radio City Christmas Spectacular," starring the Rockettes (which is turning 85 this year), returns to the Chicago area after a four-year break. The holiday musical has new scenes, set designs and technological updates (Spoiler alert: Cool stuff is going to happen on huge LED screens). What remains unchanged is the unparalleled combination of precision and glamour of a Rockettes performance. In a new finale, "Let Christmas Shine," the dancers will be wearing -- and dancing in -- costumes with more than 3,000 crystals, followed by a singalong with the Radio City Singers of "Joy to the World."

Why go: There will be a "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" and "The Living Nativity," two of the show's signature numbers.

Reconsider: You've moved on to another holiday tradition in the four years the show has been away.

Friday through Dec. 30 at Akoo Theatre, 5400 N. River Road, Rosemont; $30-$89; 800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com
