Hyde Park Jazz Festival

Has a jazz festival in Chicago ever emerged as fully formed or been embraced by listeners as quickly as the Hyde Park event? Not in the last few decades. For the fifth annual event, the festival expands to two days, the concerts taking place in superb venues such as the DuSable Museum of African American History, Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, Hyde Park Union Church and Mandel Hall. This year's headliners will include Ari Brown, Bethany Pickens, Don Byron's New Gospel Quintet, Fareed Haque, Nicole Mitchell, Orbert Davis, Paul Wertico, Tomeka Reid and Willie Pickens. Starting 1 p.m. Sept. 24 and running past midnight; and 1 to 8 p.m. Sept. 25. Free; hydeparkjazzfestival.org
