2 staff members removed from Rogers Park elementary school

A second-grade teacher and an assistant principal have been removed from student contact at Jordan Elementary Community School in the Rogers Park neighborhood while Chicago Public Schools conducts an investigation into their conduct.

“Chicago Public Schools is reassigning both employees away from the classroom pending the outcome of our investigation,” CPS said in a statement.

Since the investigation is ongoing, the district said it could not discuss any details regarding the school, 7414 N Wolcott Ave. But CPS deputy press secretary David Miranda said there is no criminal investigation underway.

Bernita Camper, a former teacher’s aide and parent of a former Jordan student, said she sent a letter to the CPS inspector general in late April alleging overly familiar relationships involving staff members and students.

Camper said she has since pulled her son from the school. “I just don’t feel like it’s a safe environment for the kids. After the last day of school, he never set foot there again.”

CPS has been investigating allegations for the past few months, Miranda said. “There’s a process to these things agreed upon in the union contract,” he said.
