Thursday, June 19: Summer Solstice celebration
We love the Notebaert Nature Museum, so it's easy to be enthusiastic when the institution hosts a free party to observe summer's official start (even if the celebration is two days early). This all-ages affair, held both inside and out, lets families meet turtles and snakes, explore native plants, learn about urban foraging and, of course, enjoy the museum's exhibits, including its always-awesome butterfly haven. Craft activities and a bluegrass band add to the fun.
When: 5-8 p.m.
Where: Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive (773-755-5100, naturemuseum.org)
