A person was seriously injured when the car they were in was hit by a Metra train in the Morgan Park neighborhood this evening, authorities said.
The car was hit by a Metra Rock Island District train about 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 119th Street, and the victim taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s news office.
The victim was pinned into the car following the accident a little after 6 p.m.
The train, No. 424, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:25 p.m., was delayed by the accident. For service updates check Metra’s website. The train struck the car, but it was unclear why the car was on the tracks, a Metra spokesman said.
