GAYLORD -- Prospective entrepreneurs from Michigan soon will have an opportunity to compete in Gaylord for funding consideration and small-business resources.
The opportunity will be available during the BOOST! Gaylord event on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Northwood University satellite center, 80 Livingston Blvd., Gaylord.
"BOOST! is a kinder version of (reality television program) 'Shark Tank' without the cameras or commercials," said Chris Moultrup, programs director of the MidMichigan Innovation Center (MMIC).
BOOST! Gaylord is open to the public free of charge, but registration is required. Presenters and observers can register at www.mmic.us or by calling (989) 839-2334.
Contestants will have two minutes to pitch their idea, product or service before a panel of judges and an audience of experienced entrepreneurs and business support professionals. Presenters will receive constructive feedback to strengthen pitches.
The top two presenters win an opportunity to give an in-depth presentation, with visual aid, in front of the BlueWater Angels (based in Midland) and Northern Michigan Angels (Traverse City), followed by a question and answer session.
BOOST! Michigan presenters also compete for membership with the MidMichigan Innovation Center that provides small-business resources such as access to capital.
"The BlueWater Angels rely on BOOST! Michigan as an important vehicle to find new investment opportunities while providing companies with critical feedback and links to support resources in the region that are often more valuable than investment alone," said Ken Kousky, president of BlueWater Angels and chief executive officer of MidMichigan Innovation Center.
BlueWater Angels is a network of more than 30 high-net-worth individuals and select organizations interested in investing capital in promising companies. The primary goal is to achieve a positive return on investment while supporting the entrepreneurial community for the economic benefit of the mid-Michigan region and the state.
Northern Michigan Angels has a focus on providing financial and intellectual capital for emerging entrepreneurial companies in the northern region.
Along with MidMichigan Innovation Center, BlueWater Angels and Northern Michigan Angels, organizations cooperating in BOOST! Gaylord include the Traverse Area Chamber of Commerce and Northwood University.
Boost! Michigan and other events provided by MidMichigan Innovation Center are made possible with support from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Michigan Strategic Fund.
