The somewhat redundantly named Protection Insurance Company had offices at 168 Main St. in Hartford (near where St. Peter's Church and the Hispanic Health Council are today) but by sending a letter you could apply to be insured against fire and marine risks by mail from anywhere. <br><br> The company went out of business in 1854.
