Thresa A. Nelson has joined the Chicago Urban League as chief financial officer.<br>

She will direct the Urban League's financial planning and accounting practices, as well as its relationship with lending institutions and the financial community.<br>

Before joining the Urban League staff, Nelson was chief executive  of Civitas Schools and chief operating officer of its parent <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000178" title="Chicago International Charter School" href="/topic/education/schools/charter-schools/chicago-international-charter-school-OREDU0000178.topic">Chicago International Charter School</a>. She also held financial posts with  GCI Group Inc.-Chicago, a subsidiary of Grey Advertising.<br>

Nelson, a CPA, has a bachelor's degree in business administration from <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000125" title="Loyola University Chicago" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/loyola-university-chicago-OREDU0000125.topic">Loyola University Chicago</a> and a master’s in administration and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000174" title="Louisiana State University" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/louisiana-state-university-OREDU0000174.topic">Louisiana State University</a>.
