Aetna Chairman and CEO Mark T. Bertolini is joining the board of directors for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Springfield.

MassMutual announced three new board members Wednesday. All three will be up for re-election at the April 2015 annual meeting of MassMutual. The term of service for new board members “will not exceed 4 years,” according to MassMutual, which has offices in Enfield.

The three new board members are additions to the existing board, which will increase the size of the board to 15 members.

MassMutual declined to say how much it will pay its new board members. In 2013, compensation for MassMutual’s directors ranged from $111,404 to $263,878.

Bertolini is chairman of Aetna’s Board of Directors and is the health insurer’s top executive. He also serves on the board of directors for several nonprofits, including Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Inc., Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation Inc., and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

The other two new MassMutual board members are Isabella D. Goren, former chief financial officer of American Airlines Inc. and AMR Corp.; and Dr. Jeffrey M. Leiden, chairman and CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.
