Sweet Monkey Frozen Yogurt stand just opened. How is it going?
A: David Novstrup: Sweet Monkey, which is just one of our many attractions, is doing great. Our customers love the frozen yogurt with toppings. Once the weather gets warmer, the yogurt will be even more popular.
do you offer?
A. At Sweet Monkey, we offer six flavors of frozen yogurt. Right now we have watermelon, vanilla bean, caramel pretzel, chocolate, cookies and cream, and Cinnabon. We have 18 toppings. We will rotate yogurt flavors and toppings throughout the summer. Sweet Monkey Frozen Yogurt has 40-50 flavors, so we have a lot of choices.
Groups that have picnics at Wylie Park can enjoy the frozen yogurt as a great dessert for their picnic.
What is your most unusual flavor or menu item?
A. The most unusual flavors are Cinnabon and caramel pretzel. We also have Strawberry Boba Balls.
Why did you decide to open Sweet Monkey?
A. We decided to add Sweet Monkey because we saw an opportunity that would improve Wylie Park and Thunder Road. Sweet Monkey Frozen Yogurt fits well with our current customers and is a nice treat for families after they have enjoyed our other attractions.
What are your other attractions?
A. We have go-karts, bumper boats, mini-golf and Euro Bungy.
How many employees do you have?
A. We have 25 seasonal employees and two full-time employees. Our shift managers are Josh Brinkman, Travis Kamm, Mikayla Barondeau and Allyson DesCamps. David Novstrup is the general manager.
What is the most exciting thing about your new yogurt business?
A. The two most exciting things about our new business is that it is mobile, so we can take it to events. The other thing is we charge a flat fee for the three sizes that we sell, so you know exactly what you are going to pay before you fill your cup.
Do you close for the winter months?
A. Yes, we will close at Wylie Park, probably around Sept. 15. We will be serving Sweet Monkey at other locations, such as the Northern State University's football games, this fall.
Goals for the future?
A. Every fall we go to an amusement park convention (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) to see new rides and products. This is the convention where we found Sweet Monkey Frozen Yogurt last fall. We will continue to look at possible additions to our business.
