Roundup: Reservoir shuts out Mt. Hebron, 6-0, in softball semifinal

No. 5 Reservoir softball team relied on its defense again and quieted the Mount Hebron bats in a Class 3A East regional semifinal Thursday.

Winner Rachel Brown struck out four and shut out the Vikings, 6-0.

The Gators (16-3) have given up one run in the past two playoff games.

Reservoir's offense scored single runs in the first and second innings followed by two two-run innings, the third and fourth.


James M. Bennett 6, No. 7 Northeast 3: Brandon O'Malley went 2-for-4 and Eric Grantland doubled in two runs, but the Eagles (16-6) fell to the Clippers in a Class 3A regional semifinal.

Bennett has won 42 games in a row.

Loyola 13, St. Paul's 8: Powered by a nine-run fourth inning, the Dons eliminated the Crusaders from the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs.

Loyola will visit No. 1 Calvert Hall today for the right to meet Archbishop Curley for the title Sunday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. Seniors Sam Rogers and Colin Brown, and junior Michael Wright had two-run singles in the uprising for the Dons.

Mount Carmel 9, Glenelg Country School 4: Winner Matt Biscoe worked six innings and the visiting Cougars beat the Dragons in an MIAA B Conference playoff game.

Mount Carmel faces St. Vincent Pallotti today at 1:30 p.m. at Kinder Park.
