Right-hander Sam Rogers pitched a five-hit shutout Thursday as visiting Loyola upset No. 3 Archbishop Spalding, 2-0, in baseball.
Rogers (3-1) struck out six in his second consecutive shutout. He blanked Plum High School (Pittsburgh) in Tampa, Fla., last Friday by a score of 1-0.
No. 14 Mount de Sales 5, John Carroll 2: Right-hander Ashley Lewinski (2-2) struck out 13 for the host Sailors (2-2). The Patriots scored a run in the fifth and seventh innings.
No. 4 Seton Keough 2, Century 1: With the game tied at 1 in the eighth inning, Morgan Scardina hit a line drive to right field to bring home the winning run for the host Gators (1-1).
No. 4 Boys' Latin 10, Culver Academy (Ind.) 9: The host Lakers (6-1) came back after being down a goal and held off a late rally by the Eagles (3-2).
Boys' Latin trailed 5-4 in the third quarter before going on a 5-0 run.
No. 7 McDonogh 11, Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) 5: Trey McGee had a hat trick to power the host Eagles (4-2) past the Pioneers. McDonogh broke a 3-3 halftime tie by scoring five straight in the second half.
No. 3 Marriotts Ridge 9, Glenelg 7: Five unanswered goals in the second half gave the Gladiators a 7-6 lead over the defending Class 3A-2A state champion Mustangs before Marriotts Ridge pulled out a victory.

Loyola 3, McDonogh 2: The visiting Dons (2-0) beat the Eagles (1-1) for the first time in 12 years. The No. 1 doubles match became the deciding factor, with Loyola's Ross Stotesberry and Colin Densmore coming away with a 6-2, 7-5 decision.
