Reef ball project

Monday, Oct. 28: Joe Davis will speak about outdoor education and the reef ball project in the Chesapeake Bay at the monthly meeting of the Perry Hall chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. Retriever demo

Saturday, Nov. 2: Chesapeake Bay Retrievers will retriever demonstrations at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum's OysterFest in St. Michaels. Hosted by Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief and Rescue, the marker demonstrations will take place on the Navy Point lawn beginning on the hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are free for CBMM members or with festival admission. Decoy exhibit

Through next Sunday, Nov. 3: "Crisfield Carvings — Bird Hunting on Broad Waters" will be on display daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Waterfowling Building at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum at Navy Point in St. Michaels. Boating safety

Hurd 5K Run

Nov. 9: The Fifth Annual Heather L. Hurd 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk will take place at 9 a.m. at Harford Community College. The race honors the memory of Heather L. Hurd, a history major at the school from 1999 to 2003, who was killed in 2008 by a distracted driver who was texting. Hunter sight-ins

November: The Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association will host rifle and shotgun hunter sight-ins on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney on Nov. 9, 16 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and on Nov. 17 and 24 from noon to 3 p.m. Information: Robert Batchelor, 410-592-9276.

Turkey shoot

Nov. 17: The Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association will host a turkey shoot from noon to 4 p.m. on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney. Prizes include turkey, ham and bacon. For more information, call Greg at 410-598-4970.

Hunter safety

Nov. 20-23: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels is offering a four-day hunter safety course with Maryland DNR-certified hunter safety instructor Ed Henry. Successful completion of the course, which runs from 6 p.m. to 9 the first three nights at Van Lennep Auditorium, then 9 a.m. to noon on the Saturday, earns participants a Maryland certificate of competency in firearms and hunter safety. Striped bass tourney

Nov. 23-24: The 21st annual Chesapeake Bay Fall Classic, the bay's largest fall striped bass tournament, is open to recreational anglers, professional fishermen and charter boat captains. The base fee is $175. The 2012 payout was $90,000. Information:
