Howard Co. firefighters battle two Sunday night blazes

Howard County firefighters battled two Sunday night blazes in Ellicott City, including one that required assistance from Baltimore County fire officials to get under control, Howard County fire officials said.

Around 10 p.m., firefighter responded to a report of fire coming from the roof of a two-story, single-family home on the 3000 block of Mullineaux Lane. Fire officials said that three residents were in the home; two evacuated when alerted by smoke detectors and another evacuated after firefighters entered the home, officials said.

More than 40 personnel responded to the incident, and one firefighter sustained a minor hand injury, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials say the home is unsafe and preliminary damage is estimated at $265,000. Red Cross has responded to assist the three displaced residents, officials said.

Shortly after the aforementioned incident, crews responding to a report of a fire at the 3200 block of Corporate Court in Ellicott City, in a commercial building. The fire was soon under control and no injuries were sustained.
