Police: Posing as utility worker, man robbed Glen Burnie woman

A Washington man is charged after police say he robbed an Anne Arundel County woman at gunpoint after posing as a utility worker to get into her home.

Craig Steven Brooks, 49, of the 1200 block of Farragut Place NE, Washington, is charged with armed robbery, handgun violations and related counts, Anne Arundel County police said. Investigators from Anne Arundel worked with Prince George's County police detectives after a similar robbery took place there in June.

On May 3, a Glen Burnie woman opened her door in the 400 block of Bousch Place to a man who told showed her Pepco identification and said he was checking for a possible leaks. Once inside, he robbed her at gunpoint, police said. Police said witnesses told them the man drove off in a gray sedan.

Police said utility companies do not make unannounced home visits, and that residents may call utilities to check if they have workers in the area or police to check into an unexpected visitor. Pepco does not serve Glen Burnie.
