The Annapolis Democratic Central Committee will pick a replacement for former Alderman Richard E. Israel on Tuesday night.
Three men have applied to replace Israel, who resigned from the City Council earlier this month because he is moving to an assisted living facility that's outside of the ward he represented. Israel has Parkinson's disease.
The replacement alderman will serve the remainder of Israel's term, which runs through this fall's city elections.
The applicants seeking to finish Israel's term are Joe Budge, Paul Clar and Thomas McCarthy.
Budge is a familiar face in Annapolis, serving as president of the Ward One Residents Association. A retiree, Budge has lived in the ward for 10 years and plans to run for the seat during the regular election this fall.
Clar works in telecommunications and lives in Murray Hill.
McCarthy has lived in downtown Annapolis for nine years and works for the state Department of Natural Resources in land preservation.
The central committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Charles Carroll House, 107 Duke of Gloucester St. It is open to the public. Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen is expected to swear in the new alderman in May.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
