Howard County General Hospital said Monday that Steven C. Snelgrove will become president, succeeding Vic Broccolino, who plans to retire Jan. 15 after 24 years of service.
Snelgrove has 34 years of health care management experience, most recently serving as president of two community hospitals, Lexington Medical Center and Davie County Hospital, part of the Wake Forest Baptist Health System in North Carolina.
"Having grown in his career as part of a large hospital system, he brings established skills working with both community providers and academic-based physicians to advance care in the community," Brian Gragnolati, senior vice president of The Johns Hopkins Health System's Community Division, Howard County General Hospital's parent organization, said in a statement.
Added Peter J. Rogers Jr., chair of the hospital's Board of Trustees, "His depth of knowledge about how hospitals work and his understanding of the health care delivery system will serve him well in his new role, allowing him to continue providing outstanding care for the residents of Howard County."
Howard County General is a 253-bed community hospital in Columbia that employs about 1,700.
