I could hardly believe my ears when President Barack Obama chastised lawmakers for focusing on the next election instead of the nation's business ("Military bases in Md. brace for U.S. budget cuts," Feb. 27).
President Obama started his run for a second term right after the results of the first election were in. The last four years seemed to be one long campaign, but now with the term limits in effect this is wrong. Mr. Obama wants to keep "early education funding," which is just another way of saying free day care for the poor. Welfare is now up to a fifth generation, and for some this is the family business with no attempt to stop it.
We don't need furloughs of government employees, just let go of all the "holidays" that the public sector observes and the private sector doesn't. Or how about doing away with all the perks Congress gives itself? Serve one term before being rejected by the people and you still have all those health and retirement benefits — that's enough to make me drool!
Mr. Obama did fulfill one promise. He has redistributed the wealth. I fully expect his next move to be repeal of the 22nd Amendment to complete the socialist takeover of America.
