I was interested to read that a campaign slate account formed by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz has directed the majority of its funds to the campaign committee of County Councilman John Olszewski Sr. — even though the Dundalk Democrat is not running for office ("Kamenetz slate transfers $90,000 to committee for retiring Dundalk councilman," May 31).
The story says this was a move to use the money to support candidates of his choosing, meaning Mr. Olszewski, in a variety of election races.
A cynic might wonder if this was actually a way for Mr. Kamenetz to use the money to support candidates who are running against people — such as County Councilwoman Vicki Almond or State Sen. Jim Brochin — who had the audacity to oppose bills, proposals or deals that Mr. Kamenetz supported, without having his name linked to the action.
But I suppose that would be so obvious that it couldn't possibly be true.
