If the current immigration bill proposed by both major parties passes and is signed into law in its present and projected forms, the predictable result will be a split as yet unseen in our history between all blacks and all Latinos of both genders, driving them out of both parties ("Immigration bill clears hurdle," June 12)! Feeling utterly betrayed by the Democrats — with whom they've been since 1936 to now — black voters may well choose to return to their former party of 1865-to-1936, the GOP.
The Latinos will find themselves driven into a virtual war with all blacks. Feeling betrayed by both parties, they may well junk them. For the last decade at least, formerly black-held local offices in California have seen elected Latinos take over.
Let's call this proposed legislation what it is: a criminally stupid attempt by the Obama administration to do what it always wanted to do anyway, grant amnesty for all 11 million (I say really 14 million) undocumented immigrants. That the GOP would agree to this I find astonishing.
The business about "10 years without a green card," and then a "13-year pathway to citizenship," would be hilarious if it wasn't just plain imbecilic, and not even coherent.
Is this the best that both major parties can devise, really? I think not. If so, then all of them should be voted out of office in 2014, both parties sent packing the way of the dodo and the Whigs, and we should simply start over. Can we do any worse? I doubt it. Their two bills combined strike me as just plain moronic.
Now, let's turn to the threatened increase of "33 million more illegals" being attracted by 2023 if the bill is passed. That's their good news? Are they trying to add a racial component to an already building second Civil War? Way to go!
At age 66, I can truly say that this is the most idiotic set of proposals in my lifetime on the planet Earth. I am truly stunned that the two parties, President Barack Obama and members of Congress think that our people are so stupid as not to brand this for what it is — the height of foolishness and irresponsibility never seen before in our country's history.
We can do better and we will.
