Great first impression: Xavier Avery has looked like anything but a green rookie since coming up to play left field in the absence of injured Nolan Reimold. He has flashed his terrific speed at some key moments and impressed manager Buck Showalter and his new teammates with his confident approach at the plate. He reached base twice in each of the two games against the Yankees (including a bunt single and a walk against CC Sabathia) and delivered a key hit to assist the Orioles' ninth-inning comeback Wednesday against the Royals. If this keeps up, he's going to be tough to pry out of the lineup.
