Undrafted Ravens rookie cornerback Moe Lee draws praise

The Baltimore Sun

It's not often that undrafted rookies get mentioned in the same breath as first-round draft picks.

That was the case, though, for rookie cornerback Moe Lee when secondary coach Teryl Austin was asked who had surprised him so far at a mandatory minicamp.

"He just kind of seems to be around the ball quite a bit," Austin said. "Now, when that gets into games and real life situations, we will see how that plays out. But he’s a young guy who’s really kind of caught my eye.”

Lee has good size at 6-foot, 191 pounds, but went undrafted out of Utah due to a slow 40-yard dash. He ran a 4.59 and registered a 32-inch vertical leap and a 9-2 broad jump.

As a senior, he had 35 tackles, one interception, deflected seven passes and returned a fumble 47 yards for a touchdown against Brigham Young.

As a junior, he had 29 tackles, six pass deflections and three interceptions.

Lee was recruited as a wide receiver out of Palomar Community College before moving to cornerback. In two seasons of junior college football, he caught 91 passes for 1,644 yards and 20 touchdowns.
