As the Maryland Terrapins prepare for the NCAA tournament (and the men continue to not be happy with their fourth seed draw), they can get some solace in the fact that they've already conquered one heated tourney.
The University of Maryland has won the Indianapolis Star's "Who has the best alumni?" celebrity bracket, pitting famous folks from March Madness teams across the country against each other in what pretty much amounts to the most random fantasy tournament ever.
Example: Hampton's team includes Wanda Sykes and Booker T. Washington and in the first round they face a Manhattan team with Rudy Giuliani and author James Patterson.
The University of Maryland team? "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator Larry David; "The Wire" creator David Simon; Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google; "Muppets" mastermind Jim Henson; and Howard Stern BFF Robin Quivers.
The sixth man is "SportsCenter" anchor Scott Van Pelt.
Side note: I would pay major money to see Larry David and David Simon play basketball together.
A mere 17,000 words later (really), the final four are Maryland, Harvard, Georgetown and Oklahoma. Maryland's alums beat Harvard (naturally) and then conquer Georgetown for the national championship.
Here's hoping the real thing goes as smoothly for the Terps.
