HOME PLATE

Tough luck: Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez was not at his best in the series finale against the Blue Jays, but he still went into the seventh inning with just a couple of runs on the board and pitched well enough to win with a little more help from the offense. That was frustrating, no doubt, but Gonzalez has been a major player in the Orioles late-season surge and he clearly has the guts of a burglar on the mound. He can work out of trouble with the best of them, but was done in by a perfect safety squeeze bunt. Give the Blue Jays credit for finally waking up.
