Staying the course

The Orioles don't seem particularly worried about the way rookie Kevin Gausman has been knocked around in his first two major league starts. He's scheduled to face another tough lineup on Sunday when the Orioles play the finale of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers -- who are in first place in the American League Central -- at Oriole Park. Maybe some home cooking will do the kid good. He battled a very good Toronto Blue Jays lineup for five innings last week and impressed everyone with his poise under fire. He took a pretty good beating from the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night, but still seemed to have his head on straight after the game. Manager Buck Showalter seems determined to give Gausman time establish himself in the major league rotation, but this opportunity is not open-ended. He needs to make the right adjustments against Miguel Cabrera and Co.
