When it comes to fashion, Sara Harding, 24, is a day-to-night woman. She knows how to take a work outfit and change it up to make it look good for a night on the town. Case in point; the ensemble this Locust Point resident sported at the "Signature Chefs Auction," a Monday night event that raised money for the March of Dimes' efforts to help mothers have full-term pregnancies and research health issues that affect babies.
"I'll throw a blazer in the car, or different shoes. I'll wear flats during the day, then heels at night...I do that a lot, like for networking events. [For tonight], these are my go-to pants. I wore them with boots all day and threw my heels in the car for tonight."
That also leads to the blueprint Harding has drawn for her style. The SmartCEO event coordinator goes with lots of neutral basics, then adds a patterned blazer to tie a whole outfit together and give it a good pop.
"I want something that stands out. A jacket is easy to do in a print [or pattern], and not a lot of people do that."
HER STYLE: "Sophisticated preppy."
HER ENSEMBLE: Cropped black-and-white tweed jacket from Forever 21. Ivory Miami crepe shell from Nordstrom. Cropped skinny black pants from Ann Taylor Loft. Long ivory and gold Francesca's necklace, long green and gold necklace from Brightside Boutique and long gold charm necklace "that I took from my little sister" all stacked. Gold link bracelet and gold drop earrings that were both gifts. Rose gold big face watch and red leather tote from the Michael Kors store. Black patent leather round toe Candie's pumps from Kohl's.
HER STYLE INSPIRATIONS: "I follow a few blogs, like stylist.com and cupcakesandcashmere.com. And just seeing what my friends wear."
HOW SHE SAVES: "I do a lot of online shopping and online browsing. And then I'll go to an [Ann Taylor] Loft - or Old Navy sometimes - and they have a lot of the same kinds of styles as, say, a Michael Kors, but at a lower, more affordable price point."
HOW SHE SPLURGES: "I've been saving and saving for [a pair of Christian] Louboutin [shoes]. I have a Christmas jar that I've been putting money into, for something that I'd be able to wear with a lot of things, like nude or black Louboutins."
