News item: Cincinnati Reds great Barry Larkin was the only player elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America to enter the Hall of Fame this year. He and the late Cubs third baseman Ron Santo will be inducted at Cooperstown in July.

<b>Schmuck's take:</b> Congratulations to a great player and solid human. The voters -- who again gave Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro only scant recognition -- clearly are drawing a line in the sand and putting a premium on integrity.

<b>Bonus take:</b> Of course, it'll be interesting what they do next year when Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa become eligible.
