"He was the standard bearer at the middle linebacker position," said retired NFL cornerback Eric Davis, a former San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers standout. "He played the game at a level, at a pace that even as an opposing defensive player, you wanted to watch and play at. You knew he was going to make a play at some point, so you were always looking at him, wanting to be a part of it just to notice what he could possibly do."
