Novelist Barbara Kingsolver ("The Poisonwood Bible," "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle") was born in Annapolis in 1955. Her books have won several awards, not the least of which was "The Poisonwood Bible" becoming an Oprah's Book Club selection. She was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Clinton in 2000. In the mid-1990s, she -- along with fellow authors including Stephen King, Amy Tan, Matt Groening and Dave Barry -- performed as the occasional rock band Rock Bottom Remainders. She played keyboards.
