Orioles notes on Jones, Bundy, Reimold, Chen, Urrutia, lineups

The Orioles play split-squad games today in Sarasota versus the Minnesota Twins and at Clearwater against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Orioles have dispatched bench coach John Russell and Rick Adair to Clearwater while Buck Showalter will stay in Sarasota.

Showalter gave us a few notes during his press briefing today.

He said Adam Jones’ first game back will be Wednesday. No matter what Jones says.

Wei-Yin Chen will pitch roughly 5 innings tomorrow in a Class A game at Twin Lakes Park. The rest of the team is off.

Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia was in a baserunning drill Saturday at Twin Lakes Park and tweaked an ankle. Showalter said it wasn’t serious, but he’s not expected to play Monday. He has yet to play in a game.

Showalter said he’ll start bringing his regulars on the road more starting with Tuesday in Fort Myers, when Brian Roberts, Chris Davis and Nate McLouth are expected to play. Roberts will be making his first road trip of the spring.

Nolan Reimold won’t return to the field until Wednesday or Thursday. The club was hoping it would be Tuesday, but want him to be ready to play fully when he returns to the field. He has been the designated hitter for most of the spring.

The starters for the next few games: Brian Matusz on Tuesday, Zach Britton on Wednesday and Jake Arrieta on Thursday.

Showalter said Chris Tillman two-inning session at Twin Lakes went well and he could pitch later this week in a regular spring game.

We had a chance to talk to Dylan Bundy who was sent to minor league camp on Saturday. The club’s top prospect likely will begin 2013 at Double-A Bowie

“Obviously, I didn't break camp,” Bundy said. “So I need to go down there and get more innings in and hopefully build up a workload to start the season.”

This is what Showalter said to Bundy, according to Bundy: “I got my time down to 1.3 (seconds to the plate), but he challenged me to continue to do that, and really that was about it. We talked about baseball, we talked about life. But mainly, I want to get my secondary pitches more fine-tuned.”

The Orioles are wearing green O’s caps today. They will be auctioned off with the money going to the Mote Marine Laboratory Animal Hospitals in Sarasota. For more information, contact
