A 28-year-old Mouunt Vernon man selling items on Craigslist was robbed and pistol-whipped in his apartment late Wednesday, police said.
The victim, who lives in the unit block of W. Biddle St. across from the University of Baltimore campus, told police that he sells televisions on Craigslist.com and was contacted by a potential buyer, according to an incident report.
Three people came to his apartment at around 11 p.m., the report shows. One of them pulled out a handgun and stuck it in the victim's mouth as a second attempted to duct-tape his hands together. When the victim pushed one of the suspects, he was struck in the back of the head with the handgun, police said. The victim then ran out of the apartment and into the street, and the suspects fled without taking anything.
The victim suffered a cut to his head, police said. The incident was reported this morning to the University of Baltimore community with as a shooting, and city police said Thursday morning that the incident was initially reported as a stabbing.
Chris Hart, a University of Baltimore spokesman, said the campus poilce department was notified by city police that the incident was a shooting. He said that the university has since sent a revised alert describing the incident as a "armed robbery/aggravated assault."
