Babe Ruth House

Location: 216 Emory St.

History: George Herman "Babe" Ruth was born at this address in 1895. By the 1960s, the structure had fallen into disrepair and Hirsh Goldberg, press secretary for then-Mayor Theodore McKeldin, launched a campaign to save and restore the birthplace, which opened to the public as a national shrine in 1974, according to the museum's website. Presently, the birthplace features exhibits on the life of Babe Ruth.
