In January 2010, asked by Fox News' Sean Hannity whether he believed the GOP would take over the House of Representatives, Michael Steele, then the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said no. He predicted only "nice pickups in the House" -- not quite the kind of fighting spirit the party, which soon dumped him, was looking for. He also turned out to be very wrong: The Republicans picked up a net total of 63 seats, regaining control of the chamber.
