After the Ravens' 2001 Super Bowl win, then-Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend described her reaction to a touchdown: "I loved it when we made that football." Townsend lost the 2002 gubernatorial election to then-Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., unable to "overcome the perception that she was a political lightweight who couldn't string paragraphs into a coherent speech," a Sun article reported afterward.
