News item: The Prince Fielder derby has finally come to an end, with the slugging first baseman getting a nine-year deal worth $214 million from the Detroit Tigers, who now have two of the most productive sluggers in baseball at the heart of their lineup.
Schmuck's take: Once again, super agent Scott Boras has the last laugh. Everybody thought he overplayed his hand with Fielder earlier in the offseason -- and perhaps he did -- but the free agent landscape changed dramatically when the Tigers lost Victor Martinez to a serious knee injury.
