A group of men stole a vehicle in Waverly, then joined up with another group and cruised around North Baltimore, robbing joggers of their cell phones, police reports say.
The incidents were reported to police about an hour apart, with victims describing being boxed in by youths driving a dark-colored sedan and a second group in a white SUV, which had been reported stolen at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 2.
In one of the incidents, the victim reported seeing an attacker clutching a Taser, and in a second the victim's own pepper spray was snatched out of her hand and pointed at her when she refused to turn over her phone.
"The suspects have not yet been arrested, however, detectives believe they have some good leads," said Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman.
Northern District Maj. Kimberly Burrus did not respond to a request for comment.
The first occurred at about 6:10 a.m. in Wyman Park. A 43-year-old man was out jogging when he was thrown to the ground by two youths that had jumped out of the sedan. As he tried to run in another direction, a white Tahoe came around the corner and two men got out of the vehicle.
He was punched repeatedly and his iPhone was taken. The attackers spotted a woman walking her dog and took off running, the report shows.
At 6:15 a.m., a 54-year-old woman told police she was walking south in the 4800 block of Roland Ave. in Roland Park when a white SUV and a black four-door sedan passed her traveling north. Both vehicles made an abrupt U-turn.
The woman told police she was tying her shoe when a male approached holding a Taser, telling her to "kick it." She handed over her Samsung cell phone, and they fled.
Police next responded to the 5500 block of N. Charles St., where a woman said she was jogging in front of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen when she noticed the white SUV and the sedan. She told police that she believed the cars were following her, and she tried to speed up and change directions.
The driver of the SUV and his passenger got out of the vehicle and demanded that she hand over her phone. When she resisted, another male grabbed pepper spray out of her hand, pointed it at her, and said, "Give me your [expletive] phone or I'm going to kill you."
A fourth robbery was reported to police around 7:25 a.m., in the 2800 block of Saint Lo Dr. in the Northeast District. Silbert said the victim was walking in the block when four males got out of the SUV, assaulted him, and took property. A dark sedan was seen behind the SUV, Silbert said.
A police report shows the white Tahoe was stolen from the 900 block of Montpelier St. Police also believe the sedan was used in a series of robberies of 7-11 stores.
